RIP Rick Hadley...(post in process)

Rick Hadley

  • • CEO, HAWAIIAN SPRINGS BOTTLED WATER

    Age: 52

Status: Two children, ages 20 and 17

His favorite escape: Hadley chooses to use the depths of the ocean to clear his mind. As an avid free diver, he appreciates the natural sport and serenity of the underwater world. His deepest free dive to date is 150 feet, and he has held his breath underwater for more than five and a half minutes.

Favorite Hawaiian saying: “‘Aloha’ says and means so many different, positive things, I’d have to stick with that simple yet endearing word.”

When is Hadley likely to call in sick? When the dive conditions are good and the fish are in.

Harmonic convergence: “My job is perfectly aligned with my life. My passion for the ocean and Hawaii made Hawaiian Springs a natural choice for me. I love the pure, natural water that comes directly from the beautiful, pristine Hawaiian eco-system – from source to bottle with nothing in between. It’s simple. It’s genuine. And to me, it embodies Hawaii.”

Rick Hadley, a Newport Beach resident, is turning Hawaii’s favorite brand of bottled water – drawn from an artesian aquifer at the base of Mauna Loa, on the Big Island of Hawaii – into an international sensation. With sales headquartered in Orange County, this past year marked a number of major milestones for Hadley’s Honolulu-based company. Hawaiian Springs inked a deal with Inter-Islands Distribution Ltd. to further expand into the Asian market, making the water available in places such as Hong Kong and, soon, Singapore, Thailand and several other Asian countries. This international expansion complements the company’s already strong presence in Japan. Hadley also significantly increased Hawaiian Springs’ mainland shelf presence by adding 400 retail locations in the West and Southwest United States.

He is an avid free-diver, spear fisherman and philanthropist. He serves on the board of directors for the Ocean Institute, a Dana Point-based nonprofit dedicated to helping people become responsible stewards of our oceans, and is involved with the Nature Conservancy in Hawaii. He also is an advocate for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and a supporter of the annual Pipeline to a Cure gala in Huntington Beach.
